Beyond the water, big violet and cream clouds tower into a blue sky.
The reflection is the star of this painting, and it is genuinely satisfying to build. Rows of orange, gold and white blocks stack down the canvas, broken by darker ripples, and the effect only appears when the full column is complete. The reeds are loose, painterly work, the sun is a simple bold circle, and the bird is a small, sharp detail that gives the whole scene its moment of action.
