Autumn Larch Village in a Golden Forest Paint by Numbers Kit
This canvas is the last warm week of autumn, seen from above. Tall larch trees in brilliant yellow fill almost the whole frame, their narrow conical crowns layered one behind another until the forest looks like it is on fire in the best way. Tucked among the trunks are hand built wooden cottages with moss covered roofs, stone chimneys and small porches, and every window glows orange. A grey road winds down between the houses, and a little yellow car putters along it.
The forest is the reason to paint this, and it is wonderfully rewarding. The larch crowns are made of hundreds of small clustered needle marks, so you build each tree from the top down and the texture appears almost by itself. Against all that gold, the little houses provide crisp structure, and their lit windows are the warmest point on the whole canvas, whilst the fallen leaves on the ground let you use looser, quicker strokes.
