Cliffside Temple in Red and Teal Paint by Numbers Kit
A temple built into a cliff, halfway up a drop that goes a long way down. Red walls, upturned eaves and golden finials sit tight against a cream coloured rock face, with dark timber frames, verandas and a row of small windows cut into the shadow. Below the buildings the rock falls away in broad teal green strokes, and on the left the whole left hand side of the canvas is a deep brown mass of stone where a narrow flight of steps climbs the cliff. On those steps, a single dark figure, small against the wall.
This is a silkscreen print at heart, so the appeal is in flat planes of strong colour and a very limited palette: cream, teal, vermilion red and deep brown, with almost nothing in between. That means no blending at all, and it also means every shape has to be right, because the eye has nowhere to hide. It is a genuinely achievable canvas for a beginner and a very pleasing one for anyone who enjoys graphic design, because what you are really painting is contrast: the warm red of the temple sitting hard against the cool teal of the mountain.
