Ancient Egyptian Portrait in Gold Paint by Numbers Kit
This canvas has the stillness of a tomb painting and the richness of a treasury. A figure with long black hair and pale skin gazes out from under half closed lids, an ornate golden eye mask engraved with symbol patterns resting across the eyes. Fine gold chains thread through the hair above a broad gold collar inlaid with geometric marks, and below it fall layered necklaces of turquoise and dark stone. Geometric gold earrings hang on either side, and the black robe is covered in gold thread.
Gold is notoriously hard to paint convincingly, and that is what makes this canvas such a good exercise. You build the metal from warm yellows, ochres, deep browns and small bright white highlights, and the trick is in the contrast between the flat engraved areas and the sharp gleams along the edges. The pale skin and black hair give you calmer, larger sections to work through in between.
