Golden bristles sweep across the upper left corner.
The iris is the part that will occupy you longest. It is built from dozens of closely related blues and golds that have to blend into each other without any visible seam, plus fine radiating fibres and one crisp highlight that makes the whole surface look wet. The scales are the opposite: patient, repeated shapes with pale rims, built row by row like tiling, and together they give the canvas its incredible texture.
