Cascading Pale Yellow Blossom on Deep Blue Paint by Numbers Kit
A branch enters at the top right and falls diagonally down and across the whole canvas, and hanging from it is a long cascade of blossom. The flowers are simple five petalled blooms, painted almost flat in pale butter yellow, cream and soft lemon, each with a tiny cluster of yellow stamens at its centre and a faint warm shadow along the lower petals so they sit slightly cupped rather than flat. They hang in loose sprays along the branch, thinning out toward the bottom left where a long trailing stem carries the last few open flowers and a handful of tight green buds. Leaves alternate along the stems in long pointed ovals, in soft mint and sage greens with a slight blue cast in the shadows and pale yellow green where the light hits, each drawn with a fine darker vein down the middle. Behind everything, the background is a single flat field of bright cobalt blue scattered with small white four pointed stars and a scatter of soft glowing dots.
Because the background is completely flat and the flowers are tiny, this canvas lives or dies on the shape of the blossom. Each flower should be painted as one flat tint with a single darker note at its base, and the slightest overworking will turn the surface into a smudge, so a light touch and a small brush are essential. The one thing that does need careful placement is the branch itself, since its dark brown line is what gives the cascade its direction and gravity, and a slightly wobbly branch will make the whole arrangement look as though it is drifting. Keep the blues cool and even, and add the stars last.
