Sailboat Under a Golden Sun Paint by Numbers Kit
A narrow channel between two walls of mountain, and a sun so large and low that it seems to be sitting behind the peaks rather than above them. The sky is vermilion orange, banded with soft cloud, and the sun itself is a pale disc of gold, ringed by a haze of light. Teal green cliffs rise steeply on either side, their ridges traced in fine gold, with scattered pines and bursts of orange foliage catching the last light. Below, a small boat with a red sail crosses the water, which is streaked with pale gold reflections reaching all the way to the foreground.
This canvas lives on two colours and the tension between them. That vermilion sky is built from deep orange, cinnabar and warm red, layered in flat bands, and it has to stay hot so the teal mountains stay cool. The mountains themselves are all the same family of greens, from near black jade in the shadowed crevices to bright sea green on the lit faces, and those fine gold ridge lines are what give the peaks their elegance. The water is the piece that finally ties it together, with long horizontal strokes of pale gold broken by darker ripples.
