Hallway Opening onto a Lilac Garden Paint by Numbers Kit
The whole picture is a doorway, and everything in it is tinted pink. The walls are a warm dusty rose with a paler cornice above and a lilac grey skirting below, the floorboards run toward the light, and a striped rug in blush, cream and soft terracotta lies along the centre with a deeper pink border. On the left, a wooden bench holds a cream cushion, a large potted plant stands in front of it, and a cluster of small framed paintings hangs on the wall. The interior is warm, dusty, brownish pink, while the garden is cool and vivid, and the transition happens exactly at the doorway, so it is worth mixing those two worlds separately rather than reaching for the same pink throughout. Inside, the darks are what give the room shape: the dark wood of the table, the deep green leaves of the potted plant and the shadowed floorboards under the rug. Outside, the lilac and iris violets should be the most saturated colour on the canvas, since they are the payoff the whole composition is built toward.
