Description
Marshmallow Clouds Sprinkled with Blossom Paint by Numbers Kit
A tower of cloud fills the canvas, and it is made of completely the wrong colours. Rising from the lower third up to the top edge, the cloud stacks in enormous rounded lobes, each row shifting hue: cool mint and apple green along the left flank, then a band of butter yellow, then pale apricot and peach, then blush pink and rose across the middle, and finally a soft lilac and powder blue at the base and through the lower right. The crowns of each lobe, where the light hits, thin out into cream and near white, and the undersides hold the deeper pink and violet shadows. Behind and above it all, the sky is a clean bright blue. Dotted across the cloud wherever it is pale are tiny flowers, small five petalled blooms in pink, red, white, gold and blue, along with bright specks, drifts of pollen and a scatter of soft light particles, and one pale blue and lavender butterfly with outlined wings hovers over the lower right of the cloud.
This is a picture about softness in big shapes, and it should be painted in broad blended bands rather than cloud by cloud. Working horizontally across the canvas, each colour transition should be laid in while the neighbouring band is still open so that green melts into yellow and yellow into peach, keeping the whole thing as one continuous mass. The only hard edges anywhere belong to the sky behind the cloud, and that boundary is worth keeping crisp, since that is what makes the cloud read as separate and floating. The flowers and specks are the last stage, and they should be placed sparingly, as too many will break the dreaminess rather than add to it.
