Concept Car on a Neon Grid Paint by Numbers Kit
A black concept car coming straight at you out of a wall of light. The body is carbon dark and low, with a single thin glowing bar running across the nose and pale rings turning inside the wheels, and dust is spraying out from under the tyres as the grid floor streaks past in cyan, magenta and acid green. Behind it, enormous angled panels fan outward and upward, covered in type, arrows, circuit diagrams and technical readouts, all in lime green and violet against deep shadow.
This is graphic design more than painting, and it is a lot of fun because the shapes are bold and the colours are extreme. There is almost nothing to blend. What makes it work is contrast: near black surfaces sitting beside full strength acid green and hot pink, and thin bright lines cutting across dark areas to suggest light rather than texture. The car itself is the hardest section and the most rewarding, because the body has to look glossy, and that comes entirely from a few long, clean highlights following the curve of the panels. The type panels are the meditative part, all straight edges and small details.
