Pearl Draped Woman in a Silver Gown Paint by Numbers Kit
She stands in profile with one arm raised, and the whole picture is built from two materials: silver and black. Her gown is a fitted bodice covered in dense silver and white embroidery, swirls, beads and crystal work that catch light on every ridge, with a deep plunging neckline and a long skirt that trails down and away to the right. Over it all she carries an enormous black cape, thrown up behind her head and falling in wide, trowelled strokes of ink black and slate grey with hints of cold blue in the folds. The silver gown is the second challenge, because silver is really a pattern of very pale greys, whites and near blacks arranged in ornamental swirls, and the pattern has to stay crisp for the fabric to look embroidered. The cape is the easiest and the most expressive part, and it is worth laying in those bold strokes with a flat brush rather than fussing over them. Keeping the background pure white is what makes the black silhouette sit so cleanly, so resist the temptation to add anything to it.
