Stippled Swan and a Flock of Birds Paint by Numbers Kit
This canvas is built from nothing but dots, and that is what makes it so unusual. Against a charcoal ground, thousands of fine pale marks gather to form the head and folded wing of an enormous swan rising from the lower left. A wide ribbon of white light sweeps diagonally across the composition, a bold geometric cross and a pale disc sit near the centre, and dozens of small birds scatter and climb toward the top of the frame, breaking apart into loose specks as they go.
Working in stipple is a wonderfully meditative process, because there are no outlines and no edges to stay inside. Instead you build density: clusters of tight dots where the swan is solid, sparser scattering where the shapes dissolve into the background. The geometric elements give you a few crisp, decisive lines to break up the softness, and the massed birds at the top are the most delicate work on the canvas.
