Fluffy Cats of Every Colour Crowded Together Paint by Numbers Kit
Every cat on this canvas is pressed up against its neighbours, and between them they cover almost the whole range of cat colouring. There is a black cat with a soft grey sheen toward the lower middle, a chocolate brown one immediately above it, a blue striped kitten to the right, a cream Persian and a pale silver tabby along the bottom, plus a lilac shaded cat, a ginger kitten and a scatter of white and apricot faces filling the gaps. Each cat is painted as a soft oviform mass of fur with the brush marks still visible, the texture getting looser and lighter at the edges so the fur seems to blur into whatever is behind it. Small dark eyes and tiny pink noses give every one of them the same calm, half asleep expression.
What makes this canvas interesting is that the cats follow no pattern. Colours sit beside each other in whatever order they happen to fall, black against cream, ginger against blue, which means the picture is really a test of keeping many similar values apart. The dark cats are the anchor points, so they are worth placing first and keeping genuinely dark, while the creams and whites need very thin paint and a clean brush to avoid picking up darker pigment. Fur direction matters more than fur detail: short strokes that follow the curve of each head will make the whole thing feel soft even if the individual marks are rough.
