Beyond it, a brilliant blue sky holds soft banks of white and lavender cloud, and below, a long pale road runs diagonally past white houses with red roofs, dark trees and blue fields, everything washed in the cool light of early evening.
Because the palette is restrained, this canvas rewards patience more than speed. You will spend your time judging how dark a band of the vortex should be against the blue of the sky, and how much warmth the little red roofs need to feel like a glow rather than a colour. The road is a long, calm sweep that fills quickly, and the cloud banks are soft, generous shapes that come together beautifully.
